Innovation at Serrano
Imagine a learning environment where students can visit and learn about a variety of biomes, from the Sahara Desert to tropical rainforests in South America…all in one 52-minute class period. Imagine a class activity where students visit a number of colleges and universities, including Princeton, UCLA, and California College of the Arts…where they can tour the campus in a virtual world. Students at Serrano Intermediate are exploring these real places using virtual 3D technology. Teachers guide students through a variety of teaching stations to collect evidence using Virtual Reality goggles, Google Expeditions, and Google Tours. Students observe whales in the Pacific Ocean and predict migration patterns based on both what they see in the virtual world and read about in their textbooks. The variety of places our students can visit and learn about are endless. Engulfing students in a 3D world ignites the excitement of learning for students and teachers alike!
