Where Everybody Belongs ("WEB")
What is WEB?
The WEB program stands for "Where Everybody Belongs". WEB leaders train for 2 full days in the summer and then lead 350 incoming 7th graders at orientation day and lead transition activities for all new incoming students to La Paz. There are two 8th grade WEB leaders for every 8-10 7th graders. The WEB Leaders support numerous school events; escorting parents at Back to school night; helping run fundraisers, leading at Showcase and running games at lunch. Our main event is the 7th grade orientation and our goal is to create a positive culture on campus that lasts all year long!
The WEB program supports La Paz students throughout the entire school year. In addition to the first day orientation, WEB leaders make positive connections with their WEB groups all year long through events like Defy OC, Ice Skate night, lunch on the lawn, In-N-Out day, No Tobacco Day, and games every Wednesday. They make this school a place where everybody feels like they belong!
Four Components of WEB Success
WEB is a yearlong transition program with four components that contribute to its success:
- 7th Grade School Orientation - WEB Leaders and 7th graders start building the mentor relationship and receive information about how to be successful in middle school
- Academic Follow Ups - WEB Leaders support 7th grade academic success and character development through classroom visits
- Social Follow Ups - WEB Leaders and 7th graders connect outside the classroom at social events to increase student engagement and promote positive school climate
- Leader Initiated Contacts - WEB Leaders connect with their 7th graders on a more individual basis
Increasing Student Achievement
Intermediate school transition programs increases student achievement. The goal of WEB, Boomerang Project's middle school orientation and transition program, is to provide schools with a structure in which students make real connections with each other thus increasing school safety and reducing incidence of bullying. Through this program, students learn that people at school care about them and their success. WEB is the middle school transition program that will increase student achievement, enhance character development efforts and create an anti-bullying environment at your school.
