Summer School/Escuela de Verano

Depending on the academic needs of the student, SVUSD intermediate and high school students have different summer school program opportunities for credit recovery, continued engagement and, under certain conditions, original credit.
Because each program is unique, it is recommended that you contact your School Counselor or Guidance Technician to determine which program and course(s) you need to enroll.
All programs are available to intermediate and high school students only who will attend a SVUSD school in the fall of 2023, SVUSD seniors who will be summer graduates, and students who live within the SVUSD boundaries.

Summer School Program Descriptions

SVUSD High School Credit Recovery (Math and Science)

DESCRIPTION:

All science courses are UC approved. Students may enroll in one or two classes. Each class is equivalent to one semester (5 units).
All math and science courses will be taught using a combination of both classroom and online instruction and course work.
Students will be randomly assigned to period 1 or period 2. Period 1 will meet from 8:30am-10:15am and Period 2 will meet with their teacher from 10:30am-12:15pm.
Attendance is mandatory.
It is expected that students will work on their online coursework outside of their designated class time for at least 2 hours/day to complete their assigned online activities.
A study hall/student support class will be available during period 1 and period 2 for students to complete their work coursework.

SVUSD Continued Engagement

FOR STUDENTS GRADES 7-11

DESCRIPTION:

Courses will support students to develop foundational skills necessary to succeed in school.
During the class, students should experience school in a positive and fun way, engaging in project based learning, hands-on activities, and working across content areas.
Teachers will provide small group or individualized support to students in areas where gaps exist.
Students will earn 5 elective credits.
Attendance is mandatory.

SVUSD Math Summer Bridge Courses

Description:

The SVUSD Summer Bridge Math courses are designed to support student success in their next math course.
Elective credit will be given for students who participate in summer bridge classes
Students will be randomly assigned to period 1 or period 2. Period 1 will meet from 8:30am-10:15am and Period 2 will meet from 10:30am-12:15pm.
Attendance is mandatory. Students who are absent for any reason for more than three days during each session may be dropped with no credit earned.

Courses Offered:

Summer Support Bridge to High School Algebra (for current 8th graders). This course will cover essential Math 8 content to support success in Algebra 1 in high school.
Summer Acceleration Bridge to Algebra 1 Accelerated (for current 7th graders). This course will cover the Math 8 content standards taught in Math 7 Honors to prepare students for success in Algebra 1 Accelerated.
Summer Support Bridge to Math 8 (for current 7th graders). This course will cover essential Math 7 content to support success in Math 8.

REGISTRATION: begins Monday, March 20, 2023.

PCHS Credit Recovery

DESCRIPTION:

Online, credit recovery for college-prep, UC approved courses in English, math, social science, as well as original credit (for students with impacted schedules) health, physical education, and economics (12th grade only).
Operated by Pacific Coast High School (PCHS).
PCHS offers one, six week summer session. Students must be enrolled and submit work the entire six week session.
Students may enroll in one (1) or two (2) five (5) unit classes.

SUMMER SESSION DATES: July 3, 2023 – August 9, 2023.

*Students may be approved to enroll in Economics, Health, or PE for original credit ONLY if they have an impacted schedule.

ACCESS Credit Recovery

DESCRIPTION: Administered by the Orange County Department of Education, ACCESS Program.

Access offers online A-G and non A-G courses in English, math, social science, science and health. Students enrolled in non A-G courses in English, math, or social science may select a pencil/paper version of the course.

ACCESS offers one, 6 week summer session. Students may enroll in up to two courses including: math, science, social science, or English credit recovery courses or an elective.

Students must meet with their instructor at least once a week. Students can meet with teacher more than once a week for additional support as needed.

HOW TO REGISTER

Complete the Request to Enroll in OCDE Summer School Form.(Students must be signed into Saddleport to submit the registration form.)

Request to Enroll in OCDE Summer School

Once the Request to Enroll form has been submitted by the student, the student’s Guidance Office will complete an online Docusign form.
After the Guidance Office has completed the online DocuSign form, a link to the online Docusign form will be sent to both the student and parent. To access the Docusign form you will need to input an access code. The access code will be emailed to the student and parent upon completion of the Request to Enroll form.
The student and their parent each open the online DocuSign form using their own email accounts, fill in the required information, and electronically sign the provided documents.
OCDE will contact both the student and their parent via phone or email to finalize the registration by June 3, 2023.
