Principal's Newsletter - Fall Edition

principalI am excited to share with you our first MVHS newsletter of the 2017-18 school year. It is wonderful to be back at MVHS and needless to say the past 5 months have flown by for me. I have so many items to share with you.

First, I would like to introduce our new faculty and staff. Ms. Shay Sharp and Mr. Daniel Holley have joined the English Department. Some of you may know that Ms. Sharp was a student teacher last spring and Mr. Holley recently moved here from San Bernardino. Mr. Blaise Miranda is our new Engineering teacher and comes to us from Oxford Academy. Mr. Robert Westphall III teaches instrumental music and took over as Director of the program. Mr. Craig Mandelbaum teaches computerized accounting. I am so impressed with our new teachers and the positive impact they are making in the classroom.

WASC Update

In mid-November, MVHS had a scheduled visit from the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC). It was an exciting time as the WASC accreditation process validates the integrity of our school’s educational programs, while at the same time fostering improvement and providing insight from fellow educators serving on the WASC visiting committee. I am pleased to share that we had an exceptional visit and the committee identified numerous schoolwide strengths.

Although we will not find out the term of accreditation until early February, it is evident that the mission and vision of successful student learning, schoolwide student learner outcomes, and strong school culture was seen by the Visiting Committee. Currently, we are revising the WASC Action Plan which will guide our school improvement efforts for the next 6 years. Thank you to the parents and students who participated in the WASC Focus Group meetings and to our wonderful PTSO and Executive Board for your support.

We continue to be recognized for academic excellence and we are proud of our students, faculty, and staff for their hard work and dedication to high standards.

As we approach the winter break, I’m sending you best wishes for a wonderful holiday season. Please know I will do all that I can to ensure a positive high school experience for your student and value open communication.
