Update About California Dashboard and New SVUSD Data
December 5, 2024

The California Department of Education (CDE) recently updated the California School Dashboard with data from the 2023-2024 school year. The Dashboard is California’s accountability system that assesses how districts and schools are meeting the needs of their students based on the state's criteria. This online tool is designed to provide parents and educators with meaningful and easy-to-digest information on district and school progress.

The Saddleback Valley Unified School District (SVUSD) saw many bright spots when examining district-wide data from the 2023-2024 school year, including strong ratings in the areas of English language arts performance, mathematics performance, graduation rate, college and career readiness, and chronic absenteeism, with particular improvements among homeless youth, English learners, and students with disabilities.

For instance:

  • The high school graduation rate increased by 1.5% to 93.2% overall, with the greatest improvement among English learners (+10%) and homeless youth (+6.3%).
  • The district’s chronic absenteeism rate decreased to 10.7% by 4.9%, with homeless youth chronic absenteeism declining to 8.3%.
  • English language arts results maintained at 18.5 points above the standard.
  • Math results increased by 3.6 points with the greatest improvement for Hispanic students (+5.8 points), homeless youth (+8.2 points), and students with disabilities (+11 points).
  • The College and Career Preparedness rate increased by 3.4%.

The district’s data also brought to light some opportunities for growth, including improving math performance, which, despite recent gains, remains 4.5 points below the standard; enhancing college and career preparedness to build on the current 63.9% readiness rate and expanding opportunities for all students; and increasing science performance, which was included in the California Dashboard for the first time this year and is 4.8 points below the standard.

While the district’s ratings consistently surpass county and state averages, SVUSD remains focused on offering equitable, intentional, and engaging practices that provide opportunities for each and every student to be successful.
