Principal's Message

Hello Valencia Families!

New to Valencia Elementary school this school year, it has taken me very little time to feel at home. This school is truly a special place. Our family-like staff, ultra-supportive PTA, dedicated volunteers, welcoming parent community, and student body of close to 600 students, make Valencia Elementary exceptional in every way.

I have been in education since 1991 as a Principal, Assistant Principal, STEM Teacher on Special Assignment, and Elementary Teacher. I have a Master’s degree in Educational Leadership and Administration and another Master’s degree in Curriculum and Instruction. I love what I do each day and feel fortunate every morning as I pull into my parking spot at Valencia.

My primary focus is on student learning. I believe whole-heartedly in growth mindset and that all students are good at something. It is our job as educators to help students discover their strengths and to develop perseverance for the things they may not be good at…yet. Yoda was correct when he said, “The greatest teacher, failure is.” Failure, with support, generates true understanding, ownership of learning, and innovation. Providing relevance to learning supports students with the “why” and helps them to propel forward.

At the beginning of the year, I shared with the teachers a list of things they can expect from me. In an effort for all of us to get to know each other, I thought I would share some of that list with you:

  • I am student-centered.
  • I listen and I ponder.
  • I am a defender of instructional minutes.
  • I am consistent.
  • I will be in the classrooms.
  • I guard student confidentiality.
  • I consider all perspectives.
  • I appreciate honesty and open communication.
  • I can make hard decisions when I need to (even when they are unpopular).
  • I do what I say I am going to do (please remind me if I forget to do something!).
  • I will make mistakes.
  • I am a rule-follower.
  • I will work really, really hard.

You are invited to join me at my next Coffee with the Principal and to stay in-the-know through my Weekly Bulletin emails and School Messenger phone calls. I look forward to years of working together, continuing to build upon the great traditions at Valencia and creating some new ones.

Fondly,

Wendie Hauschild
