Hello Valencia Families,
Welcome to the 2022-2023 School year. My name is Carolyn Fries and I am honored to be Principal of Valencia Elementary School. I have been in education for 20 years and I have served as an elementary teacher, Technology Teacher on Special Assignment, Instructional Coach, and Assistant Principal. I am excited to now be the Principal at Valencia where we strive to provide equitable access to rigorous instruction in an inclusive environment that emphasizes the social-emotional well-being of each of our students.
In the last two years, during the pandemic, we have learned a lot about ourselves. During that time we have learned to be flexible, patient, understanding, and to work hard, but most of all we have learned the importance of relationships. The importance of coming to school, each day, to make connections so that we can continue to learn and grow.
Valencia’s staff is a community of educators who believe in teaching the whole child. Teachers collaborate regularly in Professional Learning Communities (PLCs) to determine the best way to teach each individual child and best meet the students' needs. Students are engaged in rigorous learning activities that help them master standards in all content areas. In addition to rigorous learning, teachers will provide daily social-emotional learning through our Second Step curriculum. We also welcome an on-site school counselor, two days a week, to support our students in becoming successful in the present, but also help them to become successful students in the future. Our Positive Behavior Intervention and Support (PBIS) program continues to grow and we strive to ensure all students practice safe, respectful, and responsible behaviors in all areas of the school. Check out our School Tour slide deck for more information about school and programs.
Again, I am honored to serve this amazing school. I look forward to partnering with you in educating and supporting your child in their success.
