Principal's Message

Hello Valencia Families!

Welcome to the 2021-2022 school year!  I don’t think I have ever been so excited to welcome back our Valencia Oranges.  Instruction and interaction with our students on campus always felt like a given -- and now we know it is a gift.  The experiences of the pandemic have caused us all to grow in unexpected ways.  We have learned to be flexible, stretch ourselves to try new learning practices, persevere, and find silver-linings. We can do hard things. We have also learned that connections and relationships are not only valuable, but imperative – and that learning does not take place without them.

At Valencia, we strive to provide equitable access to rigorous instruction in an inclusive environment that emphasizes the social-emotional well-being of each of our students.  This school year, Valencia’s staff will continue with our goal of Equity and Dignity for each student. We will provide weekly, if not daily, social-emotional learning through our
Second Step curriculum and add in other practices such as mindfulness, Morning Meetings, and community-building within each classroom and through our schoolwide Valencia Villages program. Our Positive Behavior Intervention and Support (PBIS) program has undergone a revision and expansion, and - new this year - we welcome an on-site school counselor two days a week. We realize that attention-seeking behavior is really connection-seeking behavior. For students that have suffered learning loss or who have been identified through Valencia’s MTSS protocols and assessments as benefiting from additional support, our classroom teachers will implement Tier 1 and some Tier 2 supports, and we have added to our staff an on-site intervention teacher and instructional assistant five days a week for those students that need more intensive short-term intervention.  Additionally, some students will have an opportunity to attend academic intervention before or after school here on campus.  Lastly, we know that all students deserve to be exposed to Depth and Complexity and other engaging and challenging GATE instructional practices; therefore, we will continue to implement these strategies in each of our classrooms at every grade level.

We have missed having all of our students together and look forward to watching in-person friendships grow, once again.  Your children bring us joy.  Thank you for entrusting them to us.

Fondly,

Ms. Wendie Hauschild
