TEDx Santiago STEAM Youth

Santiago STEAM Magnet is proud to announce our first TEDx Youth Conference during the 22-23 school year.  A handful of our sixth grade students with the support of our sixth grade teachers, Mrs. Menke and Mrs. Brown, embarked on a fulfilling event for not only our 6th graders, but also for kindergartener through sixth grade guests.

TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized (subject to certain rules and regulations).

This years theme was "Creativity and Confidence."

Speakers included:

Caley, 6th grade student

Caley is a passionate writer and poet, and she is a two-time winner of Santiago STEAM's "Haiku in the Garden" contest. Caley is uniquely inquisitive. Her use of clarifying and probing questions make her an amazing asset to any team. The combination of Caley's superior work ethic and her endless creativity make her a force to be reckoned with.

Her pencil shading technique caught the interest of her classmates this year, causing a ripple effect of inspired and confident artists in her wake.
