Characteristics of Successful Student
To benefit from greater flexibility and personalization, and to succeed in an online learning environment, students usually demonstrate certain characteristics. While it is not mandatory that students demonstrate all of the characteristics list below, successful student demonstrate a certain amount of determination and a belief in their academic abilities.

Independent learner and able to complete work with less immediate supervision. | Successful online students are comfortable in a learning environment that places emphasis on individuals taking responsibility for their learning process. While the online classroom includes interactions between the student and instructor, they are not immediate as in a traditional classroom. |
Comfortable using technology. | Successful online students are willing to spend 4 - 6 hours online per day to complete their assignments. Additionally, successful online students possess basic computer skills or are willing to learn basic computer skills and are comfortable trying different learning apps. |
Organized and have good time management skills. | Successful online students are able to set and maintain a daily routine and have the discipline to organize their assignments and time. |
Responsible |
Successful online students understand that their instructors are facilitators of their learning process and that the individual student is responsible for their learning. Therefore, they do not give up easily when confronted with material that is initially confusing or difficult to understand. They are willing to read, reread, and search for solutions to their difficulties. |
Willing to communicate with teacher and classmates | Successful online students are not afraid to ask questions and are willing to engage in online discussions with their peers and teacher. |
Determined | Successful online students persevere through “technical difficulties” and academic uncertainty. |
