Why SVUSD Virtual Academy?
Forward Thinking: We are committed to changing not only the way students are educated, but why they are educated. The world of work and citizenship is rapidly evolving. Our teachers and staff work with parents to ensure that your students are skilled to thrive in a world that requires creativity, innovative thinking, and an ability to communicate in person and virtually.
Flexibility: Content is organized to allow for students to learn at their own pace, anytime. This flexibility allows students to pursue other interests and activities.
Personalization: Teachers utilize the tools of technology to provide specific support to support students’ academic learning.
Non-Cognitive Skill Development: Non-cognitive skills are broadly defined as “patterns of thought, feelings, and behavior”. Examples include: growth and innovative mindset, social and emotional intelligence, perseverance, self-discipline, and mindfulness. We believe that non-cognitive skills are as important as cognitive skills and teach them explicitly and implicitly.
Project Based Learning (PBL): PBL is a method of instruction in which students learn content and skills by working for an extended period of time to investigate and respond to a complex and engaging, real-world question or challenge. By integrating the curriculum through PBL students are taught content in an authentic, integrated fashion fostering creativity and innovative thinking while allowing them to demonstrate their learning through authentic assessments.
Support for Parents: Parent involvement is a key component to the success of our students. We provide many ways for you to be involved in your child's education and offer support necessary for you to serve as an effective learning coach.
Modern Technology and Learning Tools: Students may bring their own device to access modern online curriculum or they can check out a district-issued Chromebook.
Blended Learning: While curriculum is organized to maximize personalization and flexibility, students are afforded unique opportunities to work with their teachers and peers in a face to face environment to maximize student learning and engagement.
Tuition Free: The SVUSD Virtual School is a public school. There is no tuition to enroll.
