What is Blended Learning?

What is Blended Learning

Blended learning is a form of education in which a student learns in part through online learning and part in a “traditional” classroom with a teacher.  Blended learning provides students with some degree of control over time, place, and/or pace.

While blended learning can take many forms, the SVUSD Virtual Academy is best described as an enriched virtual model of blended learning.  At the SVUSD Virtual Academy students complete the majority of their coursework online (anywhere and anytime) but attend school twice a week, two hours each time for required face-to-face learning sessions with a teacher.

Benefits of Blended Learning

There are many benefits to an enriched virtual blended learning including:

  • Flexibility: technology provides the opportunity for students to learn anywhere, at anytime, and set their own pace to meet learning objectives and assignment deadlines.
  • Increased personalization of student learning: online learning offers individual data, timely feedback, and flexible pathways.
  • A focus on mastery: because students have greater control over their own pace, students advance based on content mastery, not time.
