Monthly Newsletters

October 2018

October, 2018

Dear Students, Families & Caregivers,

Happy October!  Fall is upon us and we are all hoping for some autumnal weather.  This month is filled with so many wonderful activities to look forward to such as the Halloween dance, Red Ribbon Walk and Spirit Week.  Hope to see all of you at our fun events!  Flyers will go home for each event so keep checking backpack mail.

October is also the time that our school reviews its Safety Plan and holds elections for School Site Council.  If you'd like to run for School Site Council our election will take place at Back to School Night on October 10th at 6:15pm.  Just a reminder that Back to School Night is just for Esperanza parents while Futures does not have a Back to School Night.  Futures parents are welcome to attend Back to School Night for the overview portion from 6:00-6:30pm and run for election for School Site Council.

This is a great time of year to remind our families that in case of an emergency involving our students, a reunification center will be set up for families to reunite with their students next to Portable 1 under the large tree.  In the event that we have to evacuate our campus a reunification center will be set up at Shepard of the Hills church on the corner of La Paz Rd. and Muirlands Rd.  We work to keep our students safe and you can help us by always coming through the front office to pick up your student if you need to pick them up during the school day.  All of our visitors sign in and out and we regularly practice drills so we can be prepared in case of emergency.  Our students' safety is our number one priority.

Lastly, please join us for PTA!  Our next meeting is October 22 at 2:40pm in the library.  We have lots of fun and hope you join us!  In this newsletter you will find information on the PTA Reflections Program.  Artwork is due to our school by October 19th.  Last year one of our students won the Special Artist award!  I can't wait to see what beautiful art pieces our students will turn in this year.

Dates to remember:
Back to School for Esperanza:  October 10 @ 6pm
Spirit Week: October 15-19
Halloween Dance: October 19
Red Ribbon Walk: October 20
PTA Meeting: October 22
No School on: October 29

November 2018

November 2018

Dear Students, Families & Caregivers,

Happy November! This month's character trait is Thankfulness and I am so very thankful for our students and their leadership on our campus and in the community. Our Futures students are busy preparing for the upcoming play they wrote for our high school class while our Esperanza students are hard at work completing blankets that the Elks Lodge will deliver to veterans residing at the Long Beach Veteran's hospital. November also marks the second month our high school students are participating in the Reading Buddies program with La Paz in which students from the Intensive Reading Support class read once a month with our high school students. It is great to be part of this wonderful school community!

Our first School Site Council meeting was held on October 24th. We have an information board in our office if you want to know who is on the committee and what activities the committee is working on. We focused our time on campus safety and instructional support. Thanks to Sara V., Susan M., Eric D., Pauline M., Brandee G., Lisa G., Mel C., Addie T., Brittany D., Becky P., and Sarah B. for being on our committee! We approved the Comprehensive Safe School Plan and the Single Plan for Student Achievement. Great work, team!

Late Start on November 6th for Esperanza

No School on Nov. 12th or Nov. 19-23.

Coffee with the Principal on November 30th at 8am.

Thank you to everyone for being part of this awesome school community! I hope we all have a great November!
