It is the most wonderful time of the year! December is a time that we focus on giving and we are very excited to share that Miss Annie's Cups for Caring program funded 23 blankets that students, staff and volunteers made for the Mission Viejo Animal Shelter. Check out our twitter page @esperanzaeagles for some great pictures of #GivingTuesday where we were joined by Superintendent Dr. Turner, Asst. Superintendent Laura Ott, Board Member Dennis Walsh, Director of Secondary Education, Ron Pirayoff and Mission Viejo City Councilwoman, Trish Kelly to make warm blankets for our community's needy pets.
Santa is visiting Esperanza! December 22nd Santa will drop by and hand out books to our students. Santa was helped out this year by our PTA and Miss Annette's Futures class. In the true spirit of giving her student's chipped in to help Santa buy books for our school! Miss Addie's class and Miss Stacy's class will be visiting the Ronald McDonald house this month and to give toys to the children there. I am so proud that each and every class at Esperanza Education Center has found a way to give back this time of year!
Join us on December 18th at 2:40 in the library for our Pancake Breakfast Fundraiser Kick-off meeting. We will begin planning for this important FUNdraiser. This year Pancake Breakfast will be on April 22nd! Plan on attending this delicious and FUN(d-raising) event!
Please remember that our Winter Break is from December 25-January 5th. Our first day back at school will be January 8th.
It is my Winter Wish that each and every one of our students and their families will enjoy this wonderful time of year. From my family to yours: Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah and Happy Holidays and a very Happy New Year!

Happy New Year! I hope that your holidays were filled with all of your favorite things! We are ready to begin our new year with fresh energy and fun activities for our students. We are looking forward to our first PTA meeting of the year on January 22, 2018. At that same meeting we will be meeting to discuss our annual Pancake Breakfast. We need all of you to participate, if you can!
Did you know that the Pancake breakfast brought in $11,000 more than our entire annual school budget!? Without the Pancake Breakfast funds our school can't provide the necessary materials for our students to engage in their education plans but WITH Pancake Breakfast funds our school can provide a more enriching program by purchasing items like wheelchair vans and specialized equipment like adapted bikes. Please come to our meeting (or email me your ideas) on what you think our Pancake Breakfast funds should provide this coming year. After school care will be provided to any and all students whose parents need it!
Join us on January 21st at 4pm for our 80's Glow Dance! Our ASB Council has chosen to ditch the formal rock out to the music of the 80's. Get out your neon colors, crimping iron and glow bracelets and come on down to the Mission Viejo Elk's Lodge at 25092 Marguerite Parkway in Mission Viejo. Dear Parents, Caregivers, and Students,
Happy February! According to Punxsutawney Phil, we are in for another 6 weeks of winter. Really, this is winter?! Enjoy your February and Happy Valentine's Day!
Please join us February 12th at 2:40 for PTA and help us plan for our annual Pancake Breakfast. We are really in need of your help! Do you want to donate to or sponsor our Pancake Breakfast? Do you have business, family or friend connections that might want to donate to or sponsor our event? Enclosed are forms for use for you, family, friends, business partners, neighbors...you get the point! Spread the word! We will start selling tickets this month, too, so lookout in backpack mail for our Pancake Breakfast tickets.
Speaking of fundraisers, on February 23rd from 11-6 join us for burgers at Burger Boss at 27690-B Santa Margarite Parkway. You MUST bring the bright orange flyer with you for your participation to count towards our fundraiser. We are super appreciative to this generous local business for their support of our school.
Once you fill up on delicious gourmet burgers in the month of February, consider joining us for the Oso Fit Fun Run! On March 3rd join our city council and community to run, walk or roll for a good cause. If you pre-register by February 24th, ALL of the pre-registration funds go directly to our school. See the enclosed flyer for directions on registering. Just use the drop down menu and select our school. Both Burger Boss and the Oso Fit Fun Run will benefit our school's ASB.
Need another reason to join us for PTA on February 12th at 2:40? We will also be having our School Site Council meeting from 2:40 to 2:50. I will share updates on our School Site Plan and ask for your input and feedback moving forward. Your opinion is important in implementing our School Site Plan. Come on down and don't worry if you need after-care for your students. We got that covered!
Lastly, please consider helping out with the Ronald McDonald House Charity sponsored by our district. See enclosed flyer. Thanks for all you do! We are grateful for your support!

Thank you to all who came out to support our Burger Boss event! We raised almost $70! We will do more before the end of the year so be on the lookout for Burger Boss fliers.
Our next Pancake Breakfast meeting is March 19th and then again on March 26th. We are just weeks away from this super fun event. This year we are focusing on funds for our garden and more accessible playground equipment. Please email or call if you have friends or family that would like to set up a booth at our event. In the next few days you will receive information about your Classroom Basket, if you haven't already. Each classroom will be putting together a basket to be auctioned off at our Pancake Breakfast.

Dear Families, Caregivers & Students,
I hope this Spring finds you and yours healthy and ready for this new season. We are excited about our upcoming Pancake Breakfast fundraiser and hope you join us on April 22nd from 8am-11:30am. Great auction items, baskets and yummy food is available as well as a chance to win the grand prize of a $500 American Express Gift card. This event is so important to us and we are so grateful for everyone's support.
For our Esperanza students in grades 8, 11 and 12 we will begin our statewide testing on May 21st and continue through May 24th. No change to the daily schedule will occur. Classroom teachers and I will be testing students one on one or according to plan designed for them by parents and staff. A make up day will be scheduled as needed. Be sure our students get plenty of rest and nutrition every day but most importantly on testing days!
Speaking of the schedule, the Esperanza high school program and Esperanza Adult Transition Program will be proposing a new bell schedule to our school board next month. The proposed change will be to change dismissal time from 2:28pm to 2:30pm. Adding these two minutes will align our dismissal with Futures and increase the instructional day by two minutes. This proposal was vetted and approved by school staff and School Site Council. If you have any questions about this, please email me or come to the office for a chat.
Better yet, come to the Principal's Coffee on April 26th at 2pm. Let's chat about all of the exciting events from this year and discuss ideas for next year.
