SVUSD Unified Sports, Classes, and Programs

Special Olympics Unified Sports, Classes, and Programs teach student leaders of all abilities to value, learn, and grow from each other. Unified programs inspire school-wide change to create an inclusive environment on campus where students with and without intellectual disabilities work together as equitable classmates, teammates, friends, and peers. Students succeed together and become agents of change. Unified programs organically create environments of equity and acceptance. Social inclusion is best fostered when activities within the classroom, school, and community are designed and implemented by a diverse group of students within a school.

Our SVUSD Special Olympics Unified Champion Schools History

In 2015, Saddleback Valley Unified School District hosted it's first Special Olympics Unified Sports basketball game at Trabuco Hills High School. Soon after, we expanded our Unified programs into 12 SVUSD schools ranging from elementary to Adult Transition. In 2019, SVUSD hosted it's first Unified School Games with 9 schools and over 400 students with and without intellectual disabilities participating. Today, the SVUSD Unified School Games is one of the largest Unified Champion School events in Southern California with over 13 schools and over 800 students participating!

This school-based event encourages district-wide inclusion, participation of all Saddleback Valley Unified Students with intellectual disabilities and promotes leadership, friendship, and socialization for students through the power of athletic competition.
