High School Overview
Curriculum
The SVUSD Virtual Academy high school curriculum provides a pathway for students to meet the entrance requirements for a University of California or California State University. The SVUSD Virtual Academy is WASC accredited and maintains a complete A-G and NCAA approved list of high school courses. Courses are aligned with the Common Core State Standards and the scope and sequence of SVUSD high schools.

Concurrent Enrollment at High School of Residence
High school students are also afforded the opportunity to take one or two courses at their residence high school. This allows students to participate on an athletic team, join the marching band, or enroll in an art, music, drama, advanced placement or career technical education course.
Concurrent College Enrollment
Concurrent college enrollment provides high school students the opportunity to take college courses while still enrolled in high school. Students who successful enroll and complete the college level course may earn both college and high school credit. (Non-SVUSD college courses are allowed for elective credit only and may not replace any of the 165 specified classes for graduation.)

Schedule
Students are required to participate in weekly scheduled class meetings. Most classes have one scheduled class meeting each week. Advanced Placement, honors, advanced math, and science courses may require additional class meetings. Additionally, some students may be required to attend daily in required by the teacher.
Students may choose to attend the class meetings in-person by enrolling in the Blended Learning option or they may choose to attend class meetings online by enrolling in the Only-Online option.
In addition, teachers at all grade levels will be available on school days for student targeted instruction/intervention, communication, and additional content support.

Counseling
All SVUSD Virtual Academy students have access to and are provided with a comprehensive secondary school counseling program. The SVA School Counseling program strives to empower all students in their academic growth, college and career readiness, and social/emotional learning. Available support services include one-on-one counseling sessions, targeted communications with valuable resources related to academic and social emotional support as well as college and career success, and webinars to support students and their parents through the high school journey.

In-Person Learning Opportunities
The SVUSD Virtual Academy encourages students to make use of our learning lab.
The learning lab is open: 9:00 AM – 1:00 PM, Monday – Thursday.
The learning lab is a quiet place for students to come to complete their school work, receive face-to-face academic support from their teachers, or socialize with their classmates. The learn lab serves as the hub of our high school program. As a community-based online school, we are grateful to offer our students a physical space to work with their teachers and build community.
