Welcome to Music!

Saddleback Valley Unified's Elementary Music Program supports ALL Kindergarten through 6th grade students across all elementary schools in our district. We offer general music instruction for students in kindergarten through fourth grade (including recorder in fourth), through the exploration of foundational musical concepts with a variety of instruments and vocal training. After students master the fundamentals of music, they have the option of strings instrument instruction, winds instrument instruction, or vocal music (choir) in fifth and sixth grade.

As stated in the California Arts Education Framework for the Public Schools, music education, “enriches students’ lives while providing challenging, engaging, personally fulfilling, and creative learning” (CA Arts Frameworks, 2020). SVUSD strongly believes in the development of the whole child and our Elementary Music program is a core investment in our students’ multi-literacy.

Borrowing from our District

Students/families who prefer to borrow an instrument for instruction from our district, have the option of one of the following base-level ensemble instruments:

  • STRINGS - Violin (strings family; various sizes)
  • WINDS - Clarinet (woodwind family) OR Trumpet (brass family)

To borrow an instrument from SVUSD, the family must complete our Instrument Borrowing Agreement. During SVUSD's distribution weeks (at the start of each school year), this form will be turned in to the appropriate district personnel overseeing the checkout process. During the school year, this form will be turned in to the music teacher.
