School Attendance Review Board

The School Attendance Review Board is an intervention designed to help students and their families identify the issues related to their students' poor attendance. The SARB Panel consists of members from the Saddleback Valley Unified School District such as, Coordinator of Pupil Services, Lead Counselor, Program Specialist in Special Education, District Nurse, School Site Administrator and/or Counselor, in addition a representative from OC Probation, OC Sheriff's Department, and OC Social Services Agency are also on the panel. Our comprehensive panel is looking to identify solutions that are reasonable and effective for the student and family. In the event the parent and/or student is not cooperative, the panel may file with OC Probation or the OC District Attorney's Office.


Parent/District Attorney Meetings for the 2017/2018 school year will be held on the following dates:

October 12, 2017 @ TBD

December 7, 2017 @ District Office - Board Room

February 8, 2018 @TBD

March 27, 2018 @ RSM Intermediate School Theater

May 10, 2018 @ TBD

** The elementary meetings will be held from 1:00-2:30 p.m. and the secondary meetings will be held from 3:00-4:30 p.m.

SARB Process

3 or more absences

  • Student Classified as a truant
  • Letter 1 mailed home to parent/guardian
  • Student assigned Saturday School (secondary)
6 or more absences
  • Student classified as a repeat truant
  • Letter 2 mailed home to parent/guardian
  • Parent will be contacted via phone to discuss absences/truancies
  • Student assigned Saturday School (secondary)

***Student/Parent invited to a Parent/District Attorney Meeting***

10 or more absences
  • Student classified as a habitual truant
  • Letter 3 mailed home inviting parent to mandatory meeting with school administration
  • Student assigned Saturday School (secondary)
Continued Absences
  • Student/Parent will be referred to a SARB Hearing
  • All SARB hearings will be held at the Lake Forest Substation
