Community Advisory Committee (CAC)

The South Orange County Special Education Local Plan Area (SOC SELPA) CAC seeks to join together parents, educators, lawmakers, service providers and other community members who want to make a difference in the education of all students. The CAC is here to inform and support with the goal of improving and protecting the education of our children.

CAC Parent Handbook

The CAC has been hard at work to help you and your child with special needs to have the best educational experience possible.

The Parent Handbook contains everything you need to know to optimize your IEP team meeting. It is too extensive to display every page on this site, but please feel free to download the handbook.

There are over 90 different resources listed at the back of the handbook. These resources have been compiled to let you know that they exist. They are by no means recommendations by the CAC but are there to assist you in finding ones that are right for your child.

Family Resource Center

The South Orange County Family Resource Center and the South Orange County SELPA have joined together to provide a place for parents to obtain information on special education and related topics. Located in Lake Forest, this resource center now has many books and other written resources, donated by the SOC SELPA on a variety of topics including Autism, Down Syndrome, social skills, behavior management and inclusion. A "check out" system has been devised with a small refundable deposit required.
