Welcome New Teachers!

Saddleback Valley Unified School District (SVUSD) is the sponsor of the SVUSD Induction Program. Through the development and implementation of this comprehensive teacher induction program, SVUSD demonstrates a commitment to the preparation of highly qualified teachers.

SVUSD Induction is a two-year, individualized, job-embedded system of mentoring, support and professional learning that begins in the teacher’s first year of teaching as approved by the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing.  The program is focused on the key components of individualized learning and robust mentoring.

Who should enroll in the program?

Teachers employed by SVUSD, with a 40% or higher teaching assignment, who hold a preliminary California Teaching Credential General Education (Multiple Subject or Single Subject) and/or Education Specialist (Mild/Moderate, Moderate/Severe, Early Childhood Special Education) wishing to apply for a California Clear Teaching Credential. Induction Completion Requirements

SVUSD New Teacher Induction Program currently offers two learning pathways for candidates to choose from each year. The first option is the "Traditional Pathway", which involves an ILP with 2 project learning cycles. The second option is the "SV Educators Thrive Pathway" which involves an ILP that is centered around the elements of CSTP 6. Only Year 2 Candidates are eligible to choose this pathway.  Educators Thrive is a research-based personal development program to help educators develop sustainable practices.

Each candidate must successfully complete 2 years* of induction by meeting the deadlines and requirements set for each pathway. A "Year at a Glance" for each pathway is linked below to provide an overview.  Completion requirements are also outlined in the MOU that each candidate signs at the beginning of each induction year. 

Candidate MOU 

Summary of Main Completion Requirements: 

  1. Complete an Individual Learning Plan (ILP) based on individual needs and all necessary supporting documents to demonstrate professional growth along the Continuum of Teaching Practices. 

  2. Meet weekly for a minimum of not less than 1 hour with mentor for individualized support. 

  3. Attend all required induction meetings.
