Facilities Focus Group 2024-25

As you may be aware, SVUSD and school districts across the state are facing a decrease in student enrollment, brought about by fewer school age children in California. The 10 year long-term enrollment projections continue to show declining enrollment throughout Orange County. Declining enrollment poses a significant challenge for SVUSD to maintain schools at a sufficient operational size, continue safety and security upgrades, and meet the maintenance and repair needs for aging facilities which exceeds available funding. Additionally, the law requires districts provide charter schools with facility space to accommodate in-district enrollment. 

Facing these challenges, SVUSD is reconvening the Facility Focus Group (FFG) to review elementary schools with projected enrollment under 400 students. The FFG last met in 2020-21 to provide solutions for district facility operational and instructional issues to the Board of Education for consideration. This FFG will continue that successful process. The FFG includes representatives from the following schools with enrollment under 400 students:

  • Del Cerro Elementary
  • Del Lago Elementary
  • Glen Yermo Elementary
  • Linda Vista Magnet Elementary
  • Olivewood Elementary
  • San Joaquin Elementary
  • Trabuco Elementary

Facilities Presentation November 2024

At the November 2024 Board Meeting, staff presented a construction and facility update, as well as facility information with enrollment projections. The enrollment projections indicated 7 schools with long term enrollment under 400 students. Staff received approval to move forward with reconvening the Facility Focus Group (FFG).
