Electromagnets, Motors & Generators
An electromagnet is a temporary magnet made by passing current through wire that is wrapped around an iron core. An electromagnet is different from other magnets because its magnetism is temporary, occurring only when an electric current is passing through the wire. An electromagent with large amounts of current can be used to lift large amounts of weight. Smaller and weaker ones are also made and used in devices such as computer disk drives, video players, and television screens. Even motors use electromagnets to convert electricity to motion.
