Attendance, as well arriving to school on time, is very important for a student as he/she will miss out on their daily lessons.  If your child is truly sick, please keep him/her home.  Please do not have a student return to school until 24 hours has passed after having a temperature or vomiting.  EVERY DAY that a student is absent, the district loses funding, this includes all absences, even those relating to illness, medical or doctors’ appointments.

When a student is absent from school, the parent or legal guardian must notify the attendance office within 3 days of the absence.**  Select one of the following two ways to notify attendance of an absence:

1.  Email the Attendance Office at RCattendance@svusd.org by 8:15 a.m. on the date of absence.  Your email must include:

• Student's first and last name
• Date(s) of the absence(s)
• Reason
• Parent/guardian name

2.  Call the attendance hotline at (949) 768-5252, choose option 1.  We appreciate all messages to be made prior to 8:15 a.m. on the date of absence and it must clearly include:

• Student's first and last name
• Date(s) of the absence(s)
• Reason
• Teacher’s name
• The name of the parent/guardian who is leaving the message

**If notification of an absence is not received within 3 days, the absence will be logged as a truancy.

La asistencia es muy importante para un estudiante ya que se perderá sus lecciones diarias y posiblemente se atrasará. Si su hijo está realmente enfermo, manténgalo en casa. Por favor, no haga que un estudiante regrese a la escuela hasta que hayan pasado 24 horas después de la fiebre o el vómito. CADA DÍA que un estudiante está ausente, el distrito pierden fondos.

It is extremely important that students arrive in class on time. Late arrivals will affect attendance as well as interrupt teachers and students. A student who is not at their class line when the bell rings is considered tardy. All tardy students must go to the front office to receive a tardy slip before going to class.  After 30 minutes, a student is considered truant tardy.

Remember, tardies can cause a meeting with the District Attorney and referral to the SARB proceedings. Tardies are only excused for illness or medical/dental appointments proven by a doctor’s note and stamp (E5113). The attendance office will not accept any other reasons to clear tardies.

Es extremadamente importante que los estudiantes lleguen a clase a tiempo. Las llegadas tardías afectarán la asistencia e interrumpirán a los maestros y estudiantes. Un estudiante que no está en su linea de clase cuando suena el timbre de tardanza se considera tarde. Todos los estudiantes que lleguen tarde deben ir a la oficina para recibir una nota de tardanza antes de ir a clase. Después de 30 minutos, se considera que un estudiante ha llegado tarde.

Recuerde, las tardanzas pueden causar una reunión con el fiscal de distrito y una remisión a los procedimientos de SARB. Pursuant to AR 5113 4b, if a student has been absent from school for a total of 14 days during the year for verified illness, then starting the 15th day and there on, the student must present a doctor's note to excuse his/her absence when stating they are ill or at a doctor's appointment. If a doctor note is not produced for that absence, then it will be considered unexcused and count towards the attendance policy. This includes any early dismissals through the office.

A letter will be sent home when the student reaches their 8th full day absence due to illness/doctor's appointment asking the student to attend school regularly. On the 14th day of absence another letter is sent home stating that a doctor's note is now required for every absence due to illness/doctor's appointments for the rest of the school year. This includes doctor/dentist notes being required when a student is coming to school late due to a medical appointment or leaving school sick through the health office.

If your student will be missing five (5) or more days of school due to vacation, sporting event or personal reasons, then your student should sign up for an Independent Study Contract (ISC). The purpose of the ISC is for the student to receive credit for "being present" in class and for the school to recoup State money for him/her being absent. EVERY DAY that a student is absent, the district loses funds from the State.

The student and parent should see the attendance clerk to sign a contract two weeks prior to the student leaving (the more time we give the teacher, the easier it is to get the contract). Once the contract is signed, the teacher will fill it out and give it back to the attendance office to copy.  The teacher will then give it to the student. The first day the student returns to school, he/she must give the completed contract to the attendance clerk prior to going to class. The attendance clerk will then disperse the contract to the teacher to grade.

Si su estudiante faltará cinco (5) o más días de clases debido a vacaciones, eventos deportivos o razones personales, entonces su estudiante debe inscribirse en un Contrato de Estudio Independiente (ISC). El propósito del ISC es que el estudiante reciba crédito por "estar presente" en la clase y que la escuela recupere el dinero del Estado por su ausencia. CADA DÍA que un estudiante está ausente, el distrito pierden fondos del Estado.

El estudiante y el padre deben ver al secretario/a de asistencia para firmar un contrato dos semanas antes de que el estudiante se vaya (cuanto más tiempo le demos al maestro, más fácil será obtener el contrato). Una vez que se firme el contrato, el maestro lo completará y lo devolverá a la oficina de asistencia para copiarlo. Luego, el maestro se lo entregará al alumno. El primer día que el estudiante regresa a la escuela, debe entregar el contrato completo al secretario de asistencia antes de ir a clase. El secretario/a de asistencia luego distribuirá el contrato al maestro para que califique.

 

If your student attends a medical appointment during school hours we must have a medical note to excuse his/her absence.  California law and Saddleback Valley Unified School District require a doctor/medical note whenever your student visits a doctor during school hours.  This includes, but is not limited to, doctor, physical therapist, x-ray technician, counselor/psychologist, blood taking, chiropractor, urgent care, hospital, etc.

If we do not receive a doctor/medical note to excuse your student’s absence (full day, tardy or early dismissal), then that absence will be unexcused.

Si su estudiante asiste a una cita médica durante el horario escolar, debemos tener una nota médica para justificar su ausencia. La ley de California y el Distrito Escolar Unificado de Saddleback Valley requieren una nota médica / médica cada vez que su estudiante visita a un médico durante el horario escolar. Esto incluye, entre otros, médico, fisioterapeuta, técnico de rayos X, consejero / psicólogo, extracción de sangre, quiropráctico, atención de urgencia, hospital, etc.
