Cordillera Parents and Students,
Welcome to a New School Year!
I have always loved coming to school and I still do! The first day of a new school year is especially exciting. I love seeing the rested smiling faces on teachers, staff and students along with the new outfits, shiny shoes and brightly colored backpacks. I feel privileged to be working with Cordillera's staff and community as we welcome our cougars to a new school year!
My name is Mrs. Deborah Shaver and I will be leading the Cordillera staff and students as we take on a new and exciting year of learning at our great school. This year will mark my 32nd year in education. I have taught every grade from kindergarten through 8th grade! I served as a classroom teacher, literacy specialist and administrator in the Long Beach Unified School District before spending 13 years as an instructor in the elementary teaching credential programs at CSULB and CSUF. I came to SVUSD 8 years ago as a literacy coach, then assistant principal and principal. I love teaching and look for any opportunity to share my love of learning. I often spend my summers teaching and training teachers abroad. I have worked with schools in Rwanda, Kenya, Morocco, Brazil and on the Navajo Reservation. I am an avid traveller who loves culture and geography. I have travelled to 24 countries and 28 states. The rest are on my never-ending list! My husband and I have lived in Mission Viejo for 18 years and have 2 children. My son, Evan, is attending UPenn Law School and my daughter, Ellie, is in the elementary teacher credential program at Pepperdine University.
Cordillera is an extraordinary school! Our dedicated and caring staff of professionals work diligently to provide students with the best educational environment possible. Please be sure to stop by our “Why Cordillera” page to hear what makes our school such a top-notch place to learn and grow together.
I am looking forward to a PAWSitively amazing school year!
Mrs. Deborah Shaver
