RE: Schedule Changes and Fall Recess Day Announcement

Hello, this is Dr. Mucerino, principal of El Toro High School.  Thank you in advance for listening to these two important messages in their entirety.  As always, you can find the text of this message and all recent phone messaage on our web site

First, this coming Monday, September 28, is a Fall Recess day.  School is closed.

Second, due to a significant increase in enrollment, which is the reason we are experiencing some large class sizes and some book shortages, we are opening more classes in the most impacted subjects.  We are also balancing classes at this time.

The process of adding sections and balancing classes is a common practice that consists of randomly selecting students in the interest of reducing class size and balancing classes, all while making the least amount of changes possible.  Some students may change periods, and in some cases teachers.  All changes all final.  Teachers work together to exchange student records.  The changes will not impact a studentĂs grade up to this time.

These changes will occur this Tuesday, when students return to school.  New locator cards will be distributed in first and second period classes.

RE: Attendance Policy

Hello, this is Dr. Mucerino, principal of El Toro High School.  The purpose of this call is to better apprise parents of our attendance polices due to the volume of phone calls we have received regarding our procedures.  Thank you in advance for listening to this message in its entirety and for following our attendance procedures.  As always, you can find the text of this message on our web site

First:  Do not report an absence until your child has been out for three or more consecutive days.

Second - If your student has missed school, we require a note from you stating the days of your student's absence and the reason.  A parent or guardian must print and sign each and every note.  Please remember the note must be legible.

Third - If your student needs to leave early for a scheduled appointment you must send him or her with a note requesting an early dismissal.  Students drop off their early dismissal note before their first class of that day at the attendance window in the yellow box marked Early Dismissal.  Students leaving early for a doctors appointment need a doctor's stamp to receive a readmit.  Students are responsible for returning early dismissal slips the following day before being readmitted.  Early dismissal slips can be picked up during passing periods, snack or lunch.  Never during class time.

Fourth - Students needs to arrive at the attendance window no less than 15 minutes before their first period of the day for re-admittance.  Waiting at the attendance window is not an excuse for arriving late to class.

Finally - Our attendance and discipline policies are available on our web site.
