Welcome to First Grade Fun

Dear Parents,
Happy New Year! Welcome to a new decade and an exciting 2nd half of first grade. The students are becoming excellent readers and writers. Please keep reading nightly for the 10 min for homework. Also please have your student write the answers to the comprehension questions for each story. They need to be able to write in complete sentences. Please check for proper spelling and punuation. This will eliminate them having to correct it in school. For homework in math, math facts should be practiced for 5 min. each night. A simple number line will give them the support they need until they can memorize the facts.
Our next chapter in math is on Graphs and Charts. They will need to read the graph and add or subtract with the information. In science, we will begin a study on weather. If we get some rain, it will provide them an excellent example of the water cycle, temperature changes and different types of clouds. The next Meet the Masters activity is on Jan. 26th at 1:20-2:15.
Together we can support all the students in becoming life long
learners. If there are any questions, please e-mail or come in to speak to me. Let's have a great year in 2010!!

Fondly, Mrs. Walloch

Supplies
We were just notified of the shortages of the supplies at school. I have asked each student to look at their crayons and pencils to assess how many will need new ones. I have enough crayons and glue sticks to last til the end of the year. I will be happy to supply your student with the supplies they need to accomplish their assignments.
