This is a college preparatory class. Students will write formal essays and SAT style in-class essays. The reading will focus on American Literature. Vocabulary, grammar and usage will be studied weekly. Speaking and listening skills will be practiced. All assignments are posted on the board on Mondays.

Attendance is very important since there are lectures and reviews in class to prepare students for the exams similar to those they will take in college.

There is a textbook which is to be taken home and four major novels which may be purchased or checked out to students.(SCARLET LETTER, HUCK FINN, THE GREAT GATSBY and THE GRAPES OF WRATH.) In addition, students will select a book each semester to read on their own and analyze in writing.
